Physical Illusion

30mins, Performance, projected video, a blazer.

This interactive installation with drawing lines is expanded into four dimensions using performance, video, and installation. A cinematic experience is inspired by Plato’s Cave, questioning reality and illusion. A video was recorded documenting sunrise reflected onto a sheet of white paper. For the performance, another sheet of wall-size paper that bisects the space was installed. On one side of the sheet of paper, I stood facing it. The video projected behind me and the audience naturally stood behind me. In the darkness, my performance started cutting the horizon lines as far as I could reach standing in one place, and the viewers could only hear the cutting sound. As the video of sunrise changed from dark blue, red, orange, to bright yellow, it projected the one side of the sheet of paper and onto the other side of wall through the cuts. The viewers walked around to see various perspectives. When the color of the video became white, my horizontal lines formed a circular shape limited by my physical reach. The horizontal cuts connected two spaces divided by a sheet of paper, reflecting my idea of Oneness.
